- If
you have problem running PCMCIA cards in Windows 95:
If you have recently upgraded your DOS/Windows to Windows 95,
there are a few precautions you need to know.
If you installed the upgrade version of WIN95, the device drivers in
the config.sys file will remain intact. However, whenever you allow WIN95 to perform an
automatic hardware search, Win95 will remark all PCMCIA related devices used by Cardsoft
or Cardwizard, as shown below.
To regain PCMCIA functions, delete all statements REM -by PC Card (PCMCIA) wizard -
. This will return the config.sys file to
the previous setting.
If you have installed the full version of WIN95 and the PCMCIA card is
not Plug-N-Play, you need to copy the config.sys and autoexec.bat files to C:\ root
directory. You may also manually type the sample config.sys and autoexec.bat files as
shown above. In addition, install the Cardsoft or Cardwiz software found on one of the
four utility diskettes that came with your notebook. If you do not have the disks, both
Cardsoft and Cardwiz can be downloaded from Sceptre's BBS with the files names of
Cardsoft.exe and Wizard.exe respectively. If the PCMCIA card is
Plug-N-Play capable,
either delete or exclude the config.sys and autoexec.bat files and allow WIN95 to detect
and install the drivers.
To prevent WIN95 from performing a hardware search, do the following:
1. Double click My Computer located on the Desktop
2. Double click Control Panel
3. Double click Add New Hardware to reveal Add
New Hardware Wizard
4. Click Next > button to reveal the box shown
below

1. Choose No radio button when prompted with
Do you want Windows
to search for your new hardware? and click Next > button.
2. Click on the type of hardware you want to install to
conclude the search.
