- If
you cannot use modem after installed a PCMCIA
network card:
Cause for this to occur.
The CMOS setup has a setting
for internal modem setup. It might be set to IRQ
11, which will conflict with the network card (assuming
that the network was set to IRQ 11).
Steps to follow:
1. If the IRQ is set at 11, then it needs to be changed to
3. To do
this, reboot the computer and immediately you should see the message "F2 to enter
CMOS setup
" press F2 key at this time.
2. You should see a screen with your system info, and at the top there
should be the words "Main", "Peripherals", "Power",
"Security", and "Exit". Use the right arrow key to move the highlight
over to peripherals.
3. Highlight Integrated Profiles and hit Enter
key.
4. Use the down arrow key to highlight where is says,
"Modem." There should be both an IRQ setting and an IO
address.
5. Highlight the IRQ setting and use the space bar to change the
setting from 11 to 3.
6. Change the IO address to 3E8H.
7. Press Esc key twice, and choose Save changes and
Exit. Press Enter key twice. The system should reboot with your new settings.

- If
your modem does not work properly :
Make sure your modem is properly connected.
Otherwise, it may cause by resource or software
conflict. Please check the following steps:
1. Under Windows 95, click on Start, then Settings, then
Control Panel and double click on the Modems icon. This should bring up a
screen with a list of modems installed on your system. You should only see one modem
listed here.
2. Highlight the modem listed and click on the Diagnostics tab at the top of
the window. Another window should pop up with a list of COM ports. Now make sure the modem
is installed on COM 3, if it is not, then modem will not work.
3. If it is on COM 3, highlight COM 3 and click on the
More Info button. This
should bring up a window saying, "Testing your modem this may take a few
minutes". When the message disappears, you should see the information about your
modem, such as: IRQ address, COM port address IO address, and the
Maximum Speed. Also in a
small box below that info there should be command and register info.
4. If you see the port information and all the responses come back without error then
chances are the modem is working properly. It is just a problem with the software you are
using. To be sure, click on Start, Accessories, and HyperTerminal and choose the
Hypertrm
icon.
5. A window will pop up asking to input a name, type
test, and click OK.
6. The next window will pop up asking for a phone number, type any
7 digits for the Phone
# because we are just testing, any 7 digits will do.
7. Now one final window will come up showing the name and the phone number and it will
have a Dial button. Make sure the phone line is plugged into the modem and
then click on Dial. You should hear a dial tone signal and the beeping of the
dialed numbers. If you hear that then your modem MOST DEFINITELY works. If you do not then
it might be the modem card itself.
NOTE: When doing the More Info step listed above, check for any error
messages. If it comes back with errors in the response box, or if it gives you any other
strange messages, check the following: (1) Make sure it is installed on
COM 3. (2) Make sure there
are no modem programs running (i.e. Hypertrm, answering machine programs, etc.), and
(3) check
to make sure there are no other devices using COM 3.
*** If the modem is not installed on COM 3 then install it there. **
In modem properties go to the properties button and click on it. This should bring up a
window with some settings in it. There should be a box with the COM port, which the modem
is using, highlighted. In that box you should be able to change which COM port the modem
is set on.

- If
you have audio problem:
1st: If there is a speaker icon next to the clock at
your taskbar, then chances are
it's a speaker problem or you have the volume muted or way down.
2nd: you should
consider is have you installed any third party software or hardware. Software can
sometimes install its own audio drivers that don't really work with the sound card in your
machine. Hardware however usually causes resource conflict. So try removing any added
hardware or software before running the fix below.
Fix # 1
1. Go to Start, click on Settings, and then click on
Control Panel.
2. Next find the icon labeled System and double click, at the top of this window you will
see tabs, choose the one labeled Device Manager.
3. Then go to where it says Sound, Video, and Game
Controllers, look to see if there are any conflicts. You
should see an ES 1878 Control Interface, an ES 1878 Plug
and Play Audiodrive, and a Wave Device for Voice Modem.
4. If either of these devices have a yellow dot with a black exclamation mark
it mean one of 2 things: (1) The drivers are either corrupted or missing, or
(2) The
soundcard itself is not working properly.
5. Now if you see the conflicts highlight the device and click on
Remove. Do this to all devices with the yellow exclamation next to it.
6. 80% of the time it is the drivers, so the first thing you should do is get
the audio driver diskette, and run the setup program. This will reinstall the driver to
new. If you did not receive a driver diskette then visit our web page and download the
audio drivers for Windows 95 OSR2. And run the same setup program.
7. Reboot the system.
8. f the system comes back up and the speaker icon is still not next to the
clock then recheck the device manager and make sure there are no conflicts. If they are
gone then go back to control panel and double click on the Multimedia icon. Look for a box
with the sentence: Show volume control on taskbar. If there is not a check in the box put
one there at this time. Now when you close the window a speaker icon should appear next to
the clock on your taskbar. (If one did not appear, then something else is wrong with the
sound card.)
9. If it did appear then go back into Control Panel and double click on the
Sounds icon. This should bring up a window that has sound properties in it.
10. In that window look for a box with the word Schemes above it,
there should be a box with an arrow in it pointing down. Click on the arrow and it will
give a list of installed and saved schemes. Choose Windows Default.
11. Now click on Apply, it will ask if you want to save the
current scheme, click on No.
12. Now reboot your computer and when it comes back up you should hear the
Windows Startup sound.
13. If no sound is heard at this time then there are 2 other possibilities
(1) The sound card is malfunctioning, or (2) The sound card has come loose inside the
casing. Either way at this point you should call tech support and see if there are any
other options, or for repair.
FIX # 2
1. Follow steps above to see if there are conflicts with your sound card.
2. Remove them as before, but this time just reboot your computer and let Windows 95
redetect the devices. This is a quick fix that works about 25% of the time. All this does
is refresh the registry with the current drivers and reload the current drivers into your
system files.
3. Sometimes this is all you need.

- If
your computer does not recognize new video conferencing
card:
First you will need to call tech support and ask for a Video driver update, and a
PCMCIA update. Eventually these will be put on the web page but right now these files
aren't needed unless you are trying to install a video camera.
1. After getting the drivers go to PCCARDUP.EXE program and run it. This will
automatically run the update program and ask you to restart your computer.
2. Next double click on the Display icon in
Control
Panel and go to the Settings tab.
3. Click on Advanced Properties, and then click on the
Change button.
4. Choose Have Disk and direct the system to the directory that
you have placed the new inf. files. (This could be on a floppy, on the hard drive or, on a
networked computer.)
5. This show you the Neomagic driver, highlight it and click
OK.
6. Now click on Apply button and it will tell you to restart your
computer. Do so at this time.
7. When your system gets back to the Windows 95 interface the new Neomagic
VPM driver will be loaded and now you should be able to install your Video camera
properly.

- If
you have problem with your PCMCIA slot :
Usually caused by incorrect drivers, but it is very rare that the hardware
actually becomes defective.
1. Go to our web page and download the latest version of the Cirrus
Logic drivers. They can be found under the support link. The file is called 4500Win95.zip.
All the drivers for Windows 95 for the 4500 Series Notebook are in this zip file.
2. Click Start , Settings,
Control Panel and
double click on the System icon.
3. Then go to the PCMCIA Slots and remove anything you see there. Then reboot
the computer.
4. Boot the computer and press F8 when it says "Starting Windows
95
" This should bring up a menu. (If it did not then you missed the prompt and
will have to start over.)
5. Choose Safemode command prompt only.
6. Replace the PCMCIA.INF file in the
c:\WINDOWS\INF directory with the NEW
file you have downloaded.
7. Now copy the file CBSS.VXD to the
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM and C:\WINDOWS\INF
directories.
8. Last step is to delete the *.BIN files from the
C:\WINDOWS\INF directory
and reboot the system. Things should now redetect as normal.
