  1. If you want to display LCD and external monitor at the same time:
Go into Display properties and click on Settings, There should be three screens there.  One marked Monitor, TV, and LCD. Make sure there is a check mark in both the LCD and Monitor boxes. Click on Apply now. If you try and reboot the system, it should display on both. Also you can bring the screen back by pressing Function+F5.  This should bring the screen on your external monitor or TV back on. (This applies for both the VGA out and S-video out).

  2. If you cannot install DVD drivers in Windows 95:
The driver sent with the system is designed for Windows 98, they do not work in Windows 95. We are currently trying to get a Windows 95 driver available. Windows 95 does not support the DVD 100%. Windows 98 will support the DVD fully. Also, the DVD player is not supported on Windows NT 4.0.

  3. If you cannot install PCMCIA drivers in Windows 95:
The PCMCIA drivers were not included with the driver CD because Windows 98 has the driver already built into it. However, if you want to run Windows 95, download the PCMCIA drivers for the 7500 notebook they are identical.

  4. If you want to install Linux, Unix or OS2 Warp operating system:
We have not tested any of these operating systems and we have no drivers to support these systems. You can try it but you must find your own drivers.

  5. If you want to install Windows NT 4.0:
The 6500 has been tested on Microsoft NT 4.0 compatibility. But it is not 100% compatible with the NT 4.0. Function like Plug & Play & Power Management is not fully supported by NT 4.0.

  6. If you want to install Intellimouse:
The Intellimouse does work with the 6500 notebook. However because of the Touchpad’s properties, the system will not recognize the wheel or wheel button. They will be disabled in the Intellimouse properties.

  7. If you have trouble with CD-ROM/FDD:
If the CD Rom or FDD is not responding and is not presented in the Device Manager list, the CD Rom/FDD module may not be fully inserted into the Notebook.

Make sure the CD/FDD module is flush with the side of the NB. Then hold the NB vertically with the CD/FDD module facing upwards and remove the CD/FDD module out. Re-insert the module and press it until you hear a click (which is the lock). Press it one more time to make sure it is fully inserted into the connector.

If this doesn’t work, then the CD/FDD module could be defected. Return the module to Sceptre for repair.

  8. If you want to display on an External TV:
To display on External TV, your TV set must have a S-Video port. Older TV does not have the S-Video port. You can obtain a S-Video cable from an Electronic store.

Make sure the Television Port is enabled in the CMOS setup and Television type set to NTSC. Connect the S-Video cable to the TV with the  TV port. Boot up the notebook to the Windows.

    • In Windows, go to Start, Control Panel, and Display.
    • Under Display Properties, go to Settings, Advanced, and Displays.
    • Click to Check-Mark the Television and click to uncheck the LCD.
    • Click Apply & OK
    • Your TV should have a display by now.
    • To reverse back to LCD, perform this procedure but check LCD & uncheck TV.
    • You cannot use FN & F5 to toggle between TV and LCD.

The above test was tested with a Sony 32" TV with S-Video port and the Sceptre S6500 NB. Same procedure applies to Windows NT 4.0

  9. If you want to print using the Infrared Port
To be able to print to the Printer, make sure the printer has a Infrared port. This test was conducted on a LaserJet 6P Printer using Windows 98.

    1. Make sure the Infrared Port is enable in the CMOS setup (press F2 after Power On). Set the Infrared to Auto and FIR (or SIR if FIR does not work).
    2. Disable the Parallel Port for an easy setup because Windows 98 might not have enough resources to share with all the ports. After successfully installing the infrared port, you can enable the parallel port again.
    3. Save and exit CMOS setup.
    4.
Boot to Windows 98 and the Infrared Port will be install by the OS. Notebook will restart.
    5.
Upon booting up to Windows again, check the Device Manager (in Start, Control Panel, System).
    6.
Make sure the Infrared Communications Controller is enable. If it has a yellow exclamation point, double click the device and select Troubleshooter tab. You will be prompted to disable a device to make room for the Infrared port.
    7.
Next, if you can see a Red Circle Icon with a White Cross on the right side of the Task Bar (on bottom of Windows screen), the Infrared port is installed o.k.
    8.
Double click the Red Circle Icon & the Infrared Monitor window will appear.
    9.
Under the Options tab, click the Enable infrared communication box & click Apply. The Infrared port is turn on now.
    10. Place the back of the NB towards the printer Infrared Port. NB’s Infrared port is located at the back of the NB. If both the Infrared see each other, the light on the 2 Infrared port should blink & the NB should detect and install the printer drivers.
    11. The Infrared distance is limited to less than 10 ft.
    12.
For the Printer port, you can either select the Com X (Infrared Serial Port) or LPT X (Infrared Printing Port).

  11. If you want to use DVD in WIndows NT 4.0:
The CD-ROM function will work under NT 4.0 but the DVD will not be able to play movies or any DVD disc under NT 4.0. NT does not support MPEG2 function for now.

  12. If you have problem using CD-ROM/DVD Drive:
Remove the CD-ROM/FDD module out from the drive bay. Position the NB upright with the CD-ROM/FDD bay facing towards the sky. Press the CD-ROM/FDD module into the bay until you hear a click sound.

If the above does not solve the problem, maybe the CD-ROM or FDD has a hardware problem.
