1. Please download the latest driver from our ftp
site.
2. If your system is still having conflicts, please
follow these steps:
TWAIN Driver Installation:
1. Insert the Vividscan Installation Disk in A:\
2. Click on A:\Install and follow the
instructions.
3. Select the option "Adaptec SCSI Card"
SCSI Driver Installation:
1. Click on "Start" -> "Settings"
-> "Control Panel"
2.Click on "Add New Hardware"
-> No, I want to select the hardware from a
list.
3. Select "SCSI controllers"
4. Click on "Have Disk" -> A:\
-> OK
5. Click "Next" -> "Next"
-> "Finish"
***Make sure you turn on the scanner before you turn
on the PC. You might need to restart your PC a couple
times

printer with 300dpi or better. In addition, the text
size must be at least 12-point for optimal OCR
performance.

do I connect the scanner using other SCSI card?
In order to avoid conflict, it is highly recommended you
use the supplied SCSI card and remove any other SCSI
card in the system.
If you must use other Adaptec compatible SCSI card, make
sure to select "Adaptec Compatible SCSI Card"
during Twain driver installation. Due to different
versions of SCSI card driver, we do not support other
SCSI cards.

a scanned color image does not display
well on the screen:
If you want the color images to display as accurately
as possible, you should apply at least a Super VGA(256
color) video card rather than 16 color VGA. Video
displays with less than 256 color will not be able to
recreate accurate color on the screen.

to change a drawing background to white when scan as
Color RGB type?
Unlike the line art type, with the color RGB type, the scanner
looks for grayscale values and
seek the white background for value on a
grayscale. Change the color RGB type to line
art or increase the contrast. Also, you
can reduce the Highlight to set the
background to white.

- Which
graphic file format should be used to save the scanned
image?
The file format depends on how the user aims to use the
scanned image.
Image can be divided into four main types: line art,
halftone, grayscale and color. And the
appropriated image type is vital to the quality
usability of the final scanned image.

- If
the file size is too large:
Scanned images as grayscale or color can be very
large. The user can check the front panel of the
scanner for the file size before implement a
final scan. If the file size is too large, here
are four ways to reduce the size:
1. Adjust the scaling of the image
Enter the desired percentage, drag the scaling control,
click on the arrows at left end of the scaling bar --
all these methods can adjust the scaling of the
image. The final width and height of the image
will be reflected at the right-hand side of the scaling
bar below which the file size also will be shown.
2. Create a selection area
Make a selection area choosing only that portion of the
image is needed. If there is no selection area
chosen, the image size will be certainly increase by
scanning the entire scanner bed.
3. Select an appropriate image type
An inappropriate image type selected affects the
application of the image, and also increase the file
size. For example, scanning text with "Color RGB"
instead of "Line Art" will triple the file size.
4. Scan the image at a lower resolution
Using a lower resolution will significantly reduce the
file size of the final scanned image. Keep in mind
that increasing the scanning resolution does not always
create higher image quality. After reaching a
certain threshold, more resolution only increase the
size of the scanned image with little image
improvement.
File Size
The selected portion of the scanned image is the image
size on the front panel which estimates the file size
needed to be stored. This information can be very
vital if the hard disk has limited space. The
image type, the size of the selection area, the file
format, scaling percentage, resolution -- all of these
affect the file size.

For
instance, a 5x8 inch image scanned at 100 dpi as 1-bit
image would be 50K, 400K if a 8-bit image, 1200K is an
24-bit image.

If there are two devices connecting to the SCSI
card. Make sure that the SCSI ID on the scanner
does not conflict with the address for the other device
that is daisy-chained to the scanner. From the
Environment menu, select SCSI information to check the
SCSI ID numbers.

The scanner comes with OCR function, but it is
not able to separate the regions of text and images
although optimally scan each region in one
process. Moreover, the text size cannot be smaller
than 12 point for scanning.

The IBM Aptiva MWAVE card is known to cause system
conflicts. Please remove the card and software from your

Cleaning the Window Glass
If a deterioration of the scanning quality is observed,
it may be necessary to clean the window glass.
Tilt the upper cover wipe the glass surface lightly with
a soft cloth and optics cleaner or rubbing alcohol.
Cleaning the Optical Parts
After disassembling the scanner, dust may accumulate
on the glass inside of the window glass. This will
cause the image scanning quality problem. In order
to avoid this, clean these parts as described below.
Cleaning the inside
window glass:
1. Remove the upper
case.
2. Clean the glass using
a cloth dampened with optics cleaner, and then carefully
wipe dry.
Cleaning the Lens:
1. Remove the CCD PCBA
by following the disassembly procedure.
2. Then Lightly wipe it
with a soft cloth and optics cleaner.

you want to know the appropriate resolution for
scanning:
Resolution relates to the number of pixel per inch (ppi)
your scanned image will contain. This is related
to how many dots per inch your printed image will
contain. For online images it is best to scan at
72 dpi and at size you want to display on the
monitor. For printed images a good rule of thumb
is to have a scanned image that is the same size and
twice the resolution of the printed output for offset
printing. For inkjet or laser printing, scan at
the same size and resolution with 300 dpi (usually) as
the printed output.
