Key Features

Superior 4K Picture

Enter an unrivaled world of color variation, impressive contrasts, and image detail with 4K resolution (3840 x 2160). Sceptre 4K delivers a superior picture with 8 million pixels, four times more than a 1080P Full HDTV.

UHD Upscaling

Enjoy all your videos with UHD upscaling.  With an advanced video chipset, Standard Definition (SD), High Definition (HD), or Full High Definition (FHD) will be vividly enhanced to 4k resolution which delivers a picture quality that nears the degree of excellence of a UHD display.  This display will breathe new life into the colors of your older movies and TV shows.

MEMC 120

With a MEMC 120 (Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation), all action-packed sequences will flow smoothly from frame to frame for the ultimate experience. Enjoy every moment of the auto enhanced picture quality especially for all your favorite sports, video games, and movies packed with action.

HDMI 2.0

Connect all your favorite devices- game consoles, blu-ray devices, laptops- and stream up to 60 frames a second. HDMI 2.0 ensures you get the best picture and audio quality from your 4K display.

HDCP 2.2

HDCP 2.2 ensures that all the 4K content that is transferred from a source (Blu-Ray player, DVD player, etc.) to the display (the TV) is secured with copyright protection.  Bearing your convenience and future use in mind, Sceptre is compliant with HDCP 2.2 on most of its 4K UHD TVs.

Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL)

MHL allow streaming of contents from your compatible smartphone or tablet to Sceptre TV, which capitalize on the visually enhanced picture quality.

Audio Return Channel (ARC)

Audio Return Channel, or ARC, uses a single HDMI connection to send audio from a TV to the SoundBar or AV Receiver.  Using one HDMI cable, video is send to the TV with an HDMI cable, and that same HDMI cable sends audio from the TV back down the same cable.

Consumer Electronics Control (CEC)

The Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) feature allows users to control HDMI connected devices with only one remote.   Since more audio content can now be accessed with ARC and CEC, entertainment just took a giant leap forward.

Halo Stand Design

Sleek and slender, Sceptre’s Halo Stand Design is remarkably light in weight while still providing a durable metallic frame that balances the weight of the TV more evenly and efficiently than previous designs.

I got a great deal

I was comparing the TV I got with similar models in department stores. I found even Walmart was trying to sell the identical TV for $699. This is $200+ more than I paid for mine. I have been looking at multiple 4k TV and was wanting a 40"-55" so I could put it in living room for now but later move it into bedroom. This TV fits my needs and future perfect. Now I got a new great picture TV and will not need to upgrade again for years to come. The only negative I saw in reviews was to do with sound. I spent money on great speakers and amplifier years ago for DJ and karaoke in a bar. Therefore sound quality on TV is something I rarely if ever use. The picture is great and the sound complaints of others it will be a couple of years before I can confirm or deny the issues they experienced.

Sweet TV!!!

I've had this TV for a couple of months now and I got a terrific deal on it over the Black Friday weekend. It's a fantastic TV with exceptional clarity, color and style. I highly recommend this TV to anyone looking for a 4K TV. It works well with my Apple TV, Blu-Ray Player and Cable Box and I've had no issues mirroring my Mac/PC content onto it either. Fantastic! All in all, I'd buy this TV again in a heartbeat. It's THAT good! Five stars.

Throughly Impressed

I bought this a few days ago and couldn't be happier. Just a head up, this is not a smart TV. If you want all in one access to streaming, go somewhere else. I have been using my Playstation to stream netflix, hulu, amazon and I heart radio for a couple years no so that's not even an issue for me. My only issue, other than the fact that my little girl cant operate a new remote, is that the sound is a little tinny. I have a sound bar so I can easily overcome that. But just keep it in mind if you are planning to buy.

Why spend twice as much for a bloated TV with features you won't use?

The Good: It arrived in perfect condition, turned it on and it works. I'm only using 2 HDMI ports, 1 for our Roku 3 (soon to be replaced by preordered Roku 4) and 1 for our security cameras. Optical out works perfectly. We replaced a 3 1/2 year old 3D LED LG 48" with this tv. The picture on this Sceptre is better, there are no horizontal lines like we had with the LG, and because it's not a smart TV we're able to change inputs very quickly. The LG would take a while to bring up the list of available inputs, etc., no such issues with this TV - press the button and it works.

The Bad: Received the U508CV-UMK which measures 49" diagonally, being generous by 1/4", which is not 50". Maybe if you include the bezel it's 50" but it's definitely not a 50" screen. No frills, no 3D, no software updates. The metal stand is not refined, it scratched our wood dresser while putting it on top - wait til my wife notices that..

The Ugly: Not a smart TV, no ethernet, no wifi, no apps - but no problem, because I use Roku boxes. The bezel is also half an inch or so all the way around, which is ugly compared to the zero bezel LG it replaced.

All in all though, including a 5yr warranty we paid less than HALF of what the LG cost us. Definitely worth it, can't wait to get the 4K Roku 4 and see how it looks. Also, I did turn MEMC on under advanced picture settings so I'm hoping it'll be 4k 120hz.

As a computer monitor I'm loving this.

I purchased this to use as a computer monitor for my laptop, and I love it! I can't speak to using this as a "television", or for video media.

With that said there are several configuration "tweaks" that I had to make, so I wanted to share those with others that want to use this as a computer monitor.

Menu --> Picture --> Color Temperature: Warm
Menu --> Picture --> Advanced --> Dynamic Contrast: On
Menu --> Picture --> Advanced --> File Mode: On
Menu --> Picture --> Advanced --> Noise Reduction: High
Menu --> Picture --> Advanced --> MPEG Noise Reduction: High

Computer settings:
My laptop supports DisplayPort 1.2, but there are currently no DP1.2 to HDML 2.0 adapters on the market yet, so *I am not* running at:
3840 x 2160 at 60hz

The current: DP1.2 to HDML 1.4 allows a maximum of 3840 / 2160 at 30hz, *but* configured at 30hz I was having problems with the monitor actually locking on to a stable video signal. It would flicker, and I would see noise on the screen, etc. When I lowered my laptop's Monitor setting to 29hz, the two seem to lock together perfectly. I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad W540 laptop, which uses a nVidia graphics for UHD. So I don't if nVidia is providing a "loose/sloppy" signal while this monitor requires a specific signal range, or the other way around. Regardless, 29hz worked for me.

Hullian68 -August 10, 2015
Pretty pleased so far.

Have only had this for less than a week so far, therefore my overall rating may be slightly conservative. Aesthetically the physical device is pleasing to the eye and it benefits from the sleek, narrow bezel (which is pretty much the norm these days). Given the price, the unit does not look cheap and easily improves on the space where my 10 yr. old 42" 1080p TV used to hang. I will not likely experience the native audio capabilities of this device because I am using it with a networked, 5.2 channel receiver and in-the-wall speakers-- perhaps just as well. The picture is crisper and more saturated than I might have expected. Availability of 4K source material is still somewhat modest though I am awaiting the arrival of a 4K@60 fps capable mini Android HTPC which will improve things a bit. Am having difficulty detecting any evidence of actual upscaling of the 1080i DirecTV signal by the TV, regardless of which HDMI input I try. Have been unable to obtain further information on apparently relevant fora and blogs. All in all I am pleased with my purchase and expect that time will provide me with solutions to some of the minor annoyances I'm currently experiencing.

Great Value

After reading some of the reviews I was a little skeptical purchasing this model. It was all for naught. This unit couldn't be easier to install and set up.
Picture is fantastic for the price, does it have all the picture settings of the 1500-2000 dollar models, no, but it is a great value for the price.

Sceptre 508-Money well spent

I agree with others, a great buy for the price. I've had it for a month and have run it through it's paces and all in all, an outstanding value. It was easy integrate it with the other components of my system. I give it a thumbs up.

Great value for a 4K product

Partly because I had previously purchased a Sceptre Naga monitor and had very good service from it, and partly because our local TigerDirect store was closing, I purchased this U508CV-UMK model. I selected it over some others, including "smart" TV models in part because I did not want to buy a "smart" TV that in a couple of years would be outdated. For a better price, I got a 4K TV to which I can add my own "smart" devices, such as a Roku 3 box. If I want, I can connect a computer as well, as I did for a test. I am very pleased with this purchase.

Good Value

I am using this as a monitor for my computer. It is wonderful having the equivalent of 4 1080P monitors stacked together with no lines. In general I am very pleased with it. The only two things I wish is that it had a sleep mode (rather than turn off). When it turns off I lose my window layouts as it pushes all my windows into a 1080P space. I also wish it had finer grained control over color and sharpness. Other than that, this is a great monitor and a good 4k tv, though that isn't How I use it.

Great TV at a great price

I was looking for a new 4k tv and through extensive search I found there was no other tv that could match the features or price. I have had my tv for 3 months now and not 1 issue. I could not be any happier. I strongly recommend this tv to anyone. You cant even get a good hd tv for this price let alone a 4k tv.

Everything is great so far.

Just received this tv yesterday via UPS and as normal like a thief in the night, I had to go looking all over my neighborhood to find my packages. No reflection on Tiger-Direct or Spectre, just the way UPS does business. Thank you so much packaging people for packing tv box inside of another box for the outside box had holes all over it, but tv box inside was fine. TV was easy to set up and make hookups to. Turned on and set up then Walla a beautiful picture.

Sceptre U508 as computer monitor

Use as a computer monitor with GTX 750 card. Works very well in 4K. Had to adjust settings for sharpness, color etc to keep letters sharp. Certain colors make well defined numbers like red, blue, black. Green is less sharp. There is slight latency between key strokes and letter creation which takes getting used to for a fast typist. The pointer has a slight lag compared to a good regular monitor. Amazing amount of data displayed, 4 times HD monitors. Since I view from about 2', the outer screen edges seem a little darker because of sharp angle. Tremendous value at $400 for a monster data feed display. Wouldn't recommend a monitor any smaller than this with 4K.

-April 1, 2015
Better than expected

I had done quite a bit of research into 4K TV before pulling the trigger on U508CV from Sceptre. I made a half a dozen trips to check out 4K's including flat and curved screened models and now I can see very little difference between my Sceptre and the more expensive big name brands in any meaningful way. Out of the box it has been a great experience and it came at a world beater price. Just an all around great deal.

Fine tv, great for the price

I've had this tv for only a few days, and so far I'm very pleased with it. Set-up was easy, the device is easy to move around (don't be daunted by the huge carton; there's lots of padding), and the picture is excellent. I don't have any 4K source material, but watching the blu-ray of "Lawrence of Arabia" on it is a jaw-dropping experience. One small "con": The sound quality isn't great (although it's far from terrible). I can easily live with that.

Has a cheap feel about it, especially the remote

The picture quality doesn't have the same depth as my Samsung or LG HDTVs. Back light intensity seems to vary all over the screen, especially the lower corners when watching DVDs? Fantastic computer monitor with the 4K resolution though! For around $400, it is an amazing price, but a regular HDTV has a better picture to me.

This TV doesn't have smart tv feature but with a roku stick you are ...

I got this TV from tiger direct for 400+50 dollar mail-in rebate. it's been three days as of today and so far everything looks ok. This TV doesn't have smart tv feature but with a roku stick you are all set for it. Not only you can use remote control to navigate roku, I am surprised that my PS3 seems to work fine with this TV's remote. I can do everything except turning on or of my PS3. Out of 3 HDMI inputs only one is capable of displaying 4k 60hz 4:2:0 signal. The other 2 one of them is MHL 1060p 60HZ and 4K 30HZ capable. I have no way of testing 4K 60 hz but using my laptop I've been able to test 4K 25hz and of course resolution is stunning. So, for the price point having a 60hz 4k is a steal. I was going to buy a 1080p tv since my tv died the other day, surprisingly I realized this TV has good upconverting capabilities even from 720p (PS3 can can only show Hi-res 1080p YouTube videos as 720p) Of course netflix is is even better with 1080p resolution. To sum, I went out to buy a 1080p tv and ended up buying this 4k tv. So Iam happy with it. If there is anyone out there who can test the 4k 60hz HDMI port. I'd appreciate your comments.

Really good value

Full-screen media (without black bars) looks great on the U500. To see pixels you need to get your face practically on the screen. Up-scaling works very well, I have played many DVDs, as well as Blu-Rays, and they all look great. I'm using a Sony blu-ray player, which works nicely with the Sceptre remote codes. If you need a perfect picture you should spend more on a TV with localized dimming and higher contrast ratios. On the U500 you will see back-lighting glare on blacks, which is particularly noticeable on media with black bars. The U500 also has a contrast ratio of only 1200:1 (so you will sometimes see banding in sky images). I'm using all three HDMI ports. CEC works with my blu-ray player - turn on the blu-ray player, and the TV turns on and switches to the HDMI port. Another one or two ports would be helpful for future growth, especially with the component video ports being shared with the composite video port (which is very common on TVs these days). I have a Wii hooked up using the composite video, and the Wii picture looks great. I also have a leaf antenna connected to the co-ax input, and over-the-air digital signals look great too. The USB port is ...to be honest... almost a joke. It is limited to 2GB. These days you'd be hard-pressed to find a USB stick under 8GB! It also only plays JPG pictures and MP3 music. It would be nice if a firmware upgrade would enhance this, but I suspect the TV's processor can't support MPG video, or more than 2GB. The sound from the TV is acceptable, and has adequate volume. I also bought a Sceptre sound bar, since I got the TV at such a good price on Black Friday, and my biggest gripe is that the U500 has a SPDIF optical output (red laser), but the soundbar only has a SPDIF co-ax input. So I'm left with using the TV "line-out" to feed the sound bar. It does improve the sound, but I would expect the SPDIF to do better. Anyway, that is an issue with the sound bar, and not the TV. Overa

Decent TV for a great price

I bought this last week when I saw it really cheap. I just hooked it up and the picture is pretty good. The audio leaves a bit to be desired though. I played some MP3s from a USB drive and it sounded like a 30 year old radio with one speaker.
